Platform for controlling autonomous robots in logistics applications using AI and 5G network

Description

The goal and key element of the planned innovation is to design and develop a custom platform for controlling autonomous robots and other advanced technologies that will be universal and will allow the connection of any robots from different manufacturers and technological solutions. Furthermore, the aim of the innovative research and development will be to experiment with the elevation of robot control in relation to the use of the new and advanced 5G technology. The prepared project aims to solve the above described problems using the implementation of a private (campus) 5G network including both software and hardware elements of the communication system as a replacement of the existing WLAN protocol. Part of the solution will consist of both the actual installation and configuration of the 5G technology in the defined premises and its optimization in terms of the application requirements of the selected use-case (i.e. coverage, latency, throughput, reliability and security). For these purposes, the project will deploy a private 5G network covering the target premises of the selected warehouse. In addition to the actual implementation of the 5G network, the project will also aim to test the capabilities of 5G technology in meeting the requirements of a specific type of applications and services in the form of control of autonomous robots, real-time image transmission, object detection from robot cameras or low-latency, high-throughput transmission of manipulation data between individual robots and the computing centre.
